Review:

"A Star is Born" is a fantastic movie. Not something I'm going to be watching again anytime soon, but I can understand why it got the love and attention it did. The acting and the story was all-in. It can be a little jolting if you're not ready for a drama. That being said, Lady Gaga is the true star of the film. I can see why Bradley Cooper wanted her to be in the movie so badly. It was clear that to some extent both of them could really resonate with the storyline. My biggest knock on the film is that the infamous song "Shallow", which filled the radio much of 2018-2019, comes way too early in the movie. It's weird. It's weird because the song became famous way before I watched the movie, so I felt like the movie had reached its climax about 20min in. But I got over myself. But even the coming together of Ally (Lady Gaga) and Jack (Bradley Cooper) occurs way too easily and unbelievably for me. Nonetheless, the film has a magical way of making you forget about some of its shortcomings simply through good storytelling and music. I'm glad I watched this on an airplane to miss the intense amount of cursing throughout. The movie is pretty obvious in where it's headed, but it still hits hard when the moment happens, which is impressive and shows just how important acting is - we know the ending but we're still surprised.
